Thank you. I did use Irish moss, but did not use either of the other two techniques you mentioned.

I was taken aback and wasn't sure what to do once I noticed the broken bag.

If it happens again I will know how to minimize the amount of hop pellet residue.

Hop Bag Broke

Brewed up a batch today, using hop pellets in a cheesecloth hop bag (0.5 oz Cascade). Saw the bag broke when removing hop bags. Wort was very cloudy, as you would expect. Will this settle out in the primary or secondary? If not, how can I get this to precipitate? Any advice would be appreciated.

No fermentation activity; sg unchanged; pitched reconstituted S-05 this morning after racking to a secondary fermenter. Will give it another week.

Thanks for the advice

Took your advice. Let it warm up to ambient temperature (75). Added yeast nutrient and stirred, based on advice from the local homebrew store. No activity in 24 hours. Then, as suggested, pitched a vial of WLP001. Will post what happens in a couple of days. Not planning on lowering the temperature o...

Stuck Fermentation?

Brewed up an IPA on Sunday. OG 1.056. Used Cry Havoc yeast (WLP862). Pitched it without a starter at about 68 degrees. I live in Hawaii where it is pretty warm. Kept my primary fermenter (i.e., plastic bucket type) in an ice bath and added ice two times per day. Temperature of ice bath ranged from l...

2-Row versus 6-Row

I have a recipe that calls for using 6-row. Our LHBS does not sell 6-row. Can I just use 2-row instead? If so, what changes do I make to the amount of grain I use and to the mashing technique?

Any comments would be appreciated.

Shelf Life of Homebrew

Mt buddies and I have been homebrewing for the past four months. We still have a few bottles from batches we brewed in early December. Is there a "shelf life" for home brews? We live in Hawaii so our beers sit on shelves at room temperature after bottling, which is in the 70's for the most...
