Iodophore Staining?

I understand its an Iodine based product, so this may be a foolish question... I was bottling two batches over the course of two nights, and decided to try to reuse the 6 gallons of iodophore mix (first time using it)... After seeing the color of the walls of the bucket I had left it in for 24 hours...

Racked to Secondary...

Hey guys... I told you I'd keep you updated... 13 days after brewing, and 12 days after fermentation began, I racked the Kolsch to secondary. I noticed primary was complete yesterday morning, and hadn't checked the day before, so I'm pretty confident it had a decent rest. There was good sized yeast ...

Thanks guys... I think that my plan will be a combination, or more in line with what i had originally thought, just at a higher initial temp. We're two days into fermentation and I've got good CO2 release every 2 seconds or so, at a pretty consistent 58F. So I'll let it finish, give it those few day...

Thanks!

Hey Slothrob... Thanks for the input. I had read the post you had posted on earlier about the Kolsch, and didn't see much connection between their question and mine, so I posted this. Unfortunately I pitched yesterday at around 2:30 PM, and found fermentation when I woke up at 7:00 AM. It's currentl...

I have a similar problem, and have solved it by paying 25 cents a gallon for "Natural Spring Water" from a roadside stand... Haven't had that mineral-y taste since...

WLP029 in a Kolsch

Hey all.... I'm brewing a Kolsch today, and I'm pitching WLP029, German Ale/Kolsch Yeast... My plan is to pitch at or about 65F, get fermentation rolling at that temp, then move to a fridge @ 44F. After I get within .007 of my FG, I plan a diacytel (sp?) rest for 24 hours @ 65F, followed by lagering...

New (old) refridgerator... Now what?

Hey all... I picked up a 20 year old (still in working order) Whirlpool fridge on Saturday, given to me by a friend who didn't want to pay Sear's the $10 take away fee... After a scouring, it's ready to go, and I had intended to use it for fermentation (lagers, alts, kolsch, etc)... So, the big ques...

Re: rocket fuel

Yeah, warm temperatures sure will speed up fermentation, but cool, calm fermentations can significantly reduce the rocket fuel flavor. What are the chances a cool conditioning can push that "rocket fuel" flavor out? It's not too bad, just gives off an essence of "Holy Crap! That's a ...

Update!!

The design of the "siphon-tube airlock mechanism" worked perfectly... The fermentation continued vigorously for three or so days, after which we added 8.5 fl oz of pure maple syrup, and continued to ferment at a frightening rate. The OG of 1.058 dropped to 1.028 at the addition of the syru...

The AC is set for 75... So it may reach 76 for breif periods of time... We would move it to the basement... But I'm worried about agitating the fermentation at this point... Besides the basement is a Good 15 degrees colder, and the yeast specifically states fermentation temps of above 70... Thoughts?

Thanks for the replies, guys... Going on 24 hours with the posted setup, and no problems... As far as using a sanitized solution, the physics invloved with the siphon tube shouldn't allow the water to be siphoned into the fermenter... The pressure in the bucket would have to go from "pressurize...

Introduction and design question...

I'm new to this site, and couldn't find an "Introduce Yourself" section, so I figured I'd start here, and do that, and ask my question all at the same time... I'm a relatively new brewer, five brews in, and I'm really enjoying it. I work 24 hour shifts, so I'm often away when important bre...
