Was thinking of trying this on a Belgian dark ale but the read that this was a no-no. True?

With the warm weather coming I'm thinking it would be nice to try and make a beer that tastes like, well, Jamaican-style ginger beer. Anyone have experience using ginger in a brew? Was also wondering if this might also be good if it was slightly hop forward...

Yeah, I'm not set up for lagering yet, so the ale yeast route would probably be my best bet.
