Well it worked out just fine. FG wound up being 1.011 ABV=7.3. Also took a growler to a local beerposium for others to sample and it was a big hit. Working on a chocolate chili ipa next

tap water measures as close to 1.001 at 68F and my coffee porter and sage IPA (brewed after holiday ale) were right on the mark for my recipes. I used 9lbs of amber LME and 1 bottle of Lyles golde syrup along with some grains. So I think it was the yeast that possibly stalled. So I went out yesterda...

Holiday ale ending gravity still high

Brewed a holiday ale extract w/OG at 1.065 and the FG was 1.040 The yeast I used was a Wyeast smack pack 1056 and I did a yeast starter. When I pitched it I had activity in less then 8 hours and continued as any normal brew I do. Once it stopped completely 13 days later I transferred it to a seconda...

using Malto-dextrin

I am brewing up a oatmeal stout (extract) and was going to add some to the beer. Do I need to add it to the boil or can I add it to the primary? secondary?
Thanks

carving pumpkins (bitter and not designed for consumption-I think) are not the same as sweet pumpkins used for beer, pie... By roasting the sweet pumpkin you will get more caramelization as well as breaking it down. I have never dry pumpkined and would be cautious of bacteria. Good luck

James,
Thanks for the feedback. I have been using DME as well. While its a bit more $ I feel its worth it. Was just wondering.

combining different extracts ?

When creating a recipe say 13C (oatmeal stout) kepping everything else constant is there a difference and or preference from using all dark extract (dme or liquid) as opposed to using a combination of dark and light other then it would change the final color? I am trying to add more character via th...

DME Vers Liquid

Is there a advantage of using dme over liquid? Which would be better for extract brewing? Or does it depend on the style of beer being made? For example is DME better for stouts and liquid better for wheat beers? Any help is much appreciated. The only thing I can come up with is it appears there are...

I am using recipe generator and recipe calculator. Neither of these do I see a area to input my cost. You suggested my ingredients. Is this a different program? I'm using version 2.0 of the grnerator where I put all my ingredients used after naming the beer and amount of boil...and then go to recipe...

wood aged old ale

I plan on brewing (extract - 3 gal boil) a 19A Old Ale this Weekend and was wondering what any of you think of the recipe. As I still have time to go out and pick up additional ingredients, or just go with it. Note: I will also be aging this in the beer cellar for a few months at constant cooler tem...

when you put in a recipe it calculates a cost to brew. Where does this figure come from? It it an average? Is there a way to actually input what I paid for the ingredients (all of them) to get a accurate cost? Also is there a way to put a price in for other items such as canned pumpkin, vanilla bean...
