RE: Where do you buy your ingredients...and why?

Hi Barry and Welcome to the board. I have recently been using Brewmasters Warehouse and ordering my complete recipes from them. On their site you are able to create or enter your recipe and once saved into your account, you can order your recipe as a kit. I have ordered from them a couple of times n...

RE: Beer Guns

I have used all 3 of the methods mentioned in this thread and prefer using a CPBF. I first started bottling from the keg by the racking cane in the pony tap method, which worked but was at times a bit messy. I then purchased the blichmann Beer Gun and that worked a little better. After a few bottlin...

RE: Commercial Alts

Wow...you're very lucky to get any. I went out "hunting" yesterday and found nothing. I asked the store's personnel and was met with blank stares and the now famous reply of, "I never heard of that kind, so it must not be a very popular beer". But I did run into one gentleman tha...

RE: Works every time

Legman... This is indeed very good news to hear. I have yet to use any of my frozen samples as I have been growing the bank up a bit lately. I didn't have time to make a starter last week (shame on me) like i usually do, for my ESB, so my plan is to harverst from the Primary and wash, then xfer to v...

RE: My first Lager / Primary fermentation question

Sounds like its doing perfectly to me! Lager yeasts aren't so violent fermenters as some of the ale yeasts are probably due to the decreased fermentation temps. Give it a lot of time to ferment out and maintain that temperature and you will have a great lager!

hope this helps!

RE: Smoking stuff...malts...etc...

Say GuardianBrew, If you have a state park close to you, they sometimes have fire pits or charcoal grills to use. Maybe you can go to the park with some charcoal briquettes, lighter fluid, and some hickory wood and start a fire. Soak the hickory for about 2 days before you go there, build the fire a...

RE: hickory in their beer?

Hey GuardianBrew, Have you considered smoking a lb of malt in a smoker using Hickory wood? I'm not so sure you would get that hickory flavor from introducing wood chips to the beer in the secondary. Just my thoughts mind you. But you can certainly give it a try! I recently smoked up a pound of malt ...
