update
recasting my vote, ive moved to all grain now. a friend donated a commercial frig to my operation allows me to age/lager 36 cornies in the bottom half. Also I've connected with locol brewpub for free yeast and grain at cost, what a fantastic amount of support there is when you go looking for it.

newbie needs help
whoa hold on there ,slow down . Welcome to the hop vine. not to be insulting but it would be wise to learn the basics before you start to develop recipees. #1 clean clean clean,#2 plan plan #3 enjoy . go to good equipment source and get a basic starter kit with ingrediants for a basic beer and start...
faster filling
all of billybocks sugg. are good , also would like to point out that a bottle tree saves major space and helps to smooth out washing day . One more thing a bottle filler in 3/8 or even 1/2 inch will fill faster.

gaskets
don't foget to replace the rubber gaskets on grolsh bottles if they are the least bit old they can get brittle and can be almost impossible to sanitise. oh yeah don't foget to sanitise them also, don't try to sanitise them on the bottle remove them so nothing can hide between the rubber and the top....

Im also interested in making some hard cider. From what ive read cider is unfiltered juice ,still cloudy.Cider always has a more complex flavor than applejuice,so id go with the cider. As for boiling it would depend on your source,If you get cider directly from someone with a cider press and it hasn't...

final gravity
assuming extraction was on schedule with the recipe I'd guess evaporation during the boil. what volume did you end up with? This would also effect hop utilization due to higher gravity during boil, if there is room in fermentor you could add water to lower gravity. It will still be beer maybe just no...

oxy
what is your standard aration tech. you may well have added more oxygen for your yeast than you usually get because of the scooping this would account for a better fermentation and better outcome overall.I chill with wort chiller to 75 deg. then pour kettle cotents into fermentor thru funnel this ar...

time
I have noticed this effect also, but reasoned it differantly. My assumtion is that
bottles age faster ,smaller volume .Kegs tend to take more time for harsh flavors to mellow out .
