Re: Make-up Water?
I added about one gallon of water to make-up 5 gallons. The specific gravity was 1.02 before I added the water and remained the same after. How could the SG be 1.02 before AND after you added 1 gallon of water to 4 gallons of beer? Your hydrometer reading should have gone down for sure. I think tha...

Your beer will most likely be fine. It just depends on the liquid that was in your airlock. Did you boil the water that you used in your airlock? If the water in the airlock wasn't bacteria free then you could have a problem; however, at the end of fermentation, the alcohol and hops (depending on yo...

With a 5 gal. carboy, you usually want to concern yourself with blowoff by connection a blow-off tube. This gets rid of fusel alcohols and other hop related comounds that I understand are what can/do cause a beer headache and off flavors. All things considered, you might have very little blowoff or ...

Here is how I would approach this problem (eventhough it's been quite a while since the post was started): If you had 1 million parts, then 10% would be 100,00 parts. So 100,000 parts per million (mg/L). Here's a more classical approach that arrives at the same answer: If we have a solution of phoph...
