Spray coating
I don't remember what its called but I went to Wal-Mart and in the craft department they have a spray can of an acrlyic (maybe) sealant that will "waterproof" your labels. I used this stuff a while back on mine and it worked fairly well. I had a six pack of bottles in a cooler of ice for s...

No suggestions
Just curious if there were any suggestions on this. Currently I'm leaning towards not re-using.

Bottle Bombs
I can't help any on the first question, I would never use plasic personally though. For avoiding bottle bombs though you want to make sure your OG reading is consistantly the same for a few days before bottling. Then you only want to add the 3/4 cup of priming sugar when you bottle. From what I unde...

Should I reuse this cake?
I've got a cherry wheat in the secondary right now and I'm planning on making a strawberry ale next week or so. I want to bottle and brew in the same day/evening so I was considering saving the yeast cake from the secondary and pitching into the strawberry. Do you think the cherry flavor will still ...

Exactly, but...
Good to hear that I could use table sugar as well. I was worryed about the cider taste, but if I recall correctly doesn't it take longer for the yeast to break down sucrose since they first have to break it down in to dextrose and fructose? I found a box (1 lb) of fructose for about $2.50 and figure...

Priming with Fructose
I am currently unable to get any "Priming Sugar" Dextrose, but do have a store near by which carrier fructose, could I use this to prime my current batch of beer (a Porter) and if so do I still use the standard 3/4 cups or less?

Free gear
Well since my parents are in the food concession business, they use the 5 gallon Pepsi all the time and lots of it. I found out in their barn about 35 cornies they have had for about 3 years so I aquired four of them. When I get really into kegging I figure I'll go back and get some more. I will see...

Got the same one I bet
Paul we have Garden Ridge here in Illinois as well and I found a thin walled SS pot for 7.99 on clearance. I'm currently using it for my wort boil but I think it may be getting time to replace it after 5 brews. Of course I left water in it all night and noticed what looked like small rust pits in th...

Website and other info
Fitz, I will look into trying both methods, if/when we get the fryer, we will brew a batch we have already done and compare the differences. Moving to a fryer should shave a little time off the brewing process, so we might be able to complete two batches of the same beer. A question posed earlier, y...

Follow up
Tom, Thanks for the info, I checked out the fryer at Sam's Club and it says on the box that it is a SS Kettle I think it was 34 or 28 quart. I'm not planning on going all grain just yet, I'm not ready for the added equipment or have the extra time. I currently brew with a cousin and we would not be ...

A bunch of questions
Ok, so the fifth batch is in the secondary, and I'm really getting into this hobby. I've read most of the topics here that sparked my interest as I was going back through the archives and now have some questions and thoughts. A little background here, currently I have a 5 gallon SS Kettle and do all...

Yeast
As far as yeasts I've tried several, this last one was Danstar Nottigham ,I've also used a White Labs Abbey Ale, and one with safale. I've ordered all of my malts from morebeer.com, no brew shop for 80 miles and I don't have a lot of free time to drive to get the stuff. For water I use bottled Sprin...

Not an all-grainer but...
From what I understand, when you go all grain you boil your entire wort. As a result you will have to adjust your boil amount for evaperation. Therefore you start with 6 gallons and after a good 60-90 minute boil you only have 5 left.

Goin' Gold
I just wanted to let everyone here know that I've decided to get a Gold membership. I've spent the last few weeks reading all of the old posts and found a wealth of info! I'm back 540 days so far. Anyway I have one problem I can't get past yet. I'm an extract brewer at the moment and I've currently ...
