Any time beer is lost, it calls for a moment of silence (and a cold one out of respect). My left hand holds my left hand holds my hat over my heart while my right hand raises a bottle to your lost 6 pack. At least my wort (no matter how dramatic... and sticky) was not fermented. On another note... m...

Gas Burner

I do use a gas burner to boil in my backyard (good for boil overs); however, I live in Fort Worth, Texas. It was 98

Catastrophie!

For those of you who posted or were reading this topic, the orange peel wort smelled great after the boil and I was able to sneak a quick taste of the semi-cool wort; however, we will never know if it would have made a good beer... see link:

The wife was in the living room watching TV and saw the mess after I kicked my primary bucket into the cabinets. She stood there, tapping her foot, while I cleaned... so much salt... so many wounds. She even made me pull our BEAST of a refrigerator out because the wort had ran underneath. The rest i...

I did put the yeast back in the fridge in hopes of using it. A few ounces of water would have been fine, but when I took a gravity reading (and I was shaking a bit from my ordeal) it was hovering between 0.999 and 1.000. That's pretty much water... lol Oh well, seeing as how this is the first real c...

Wort Cooler Catastrophie

Just wanted to let everyone know about my wasted batch and what happened. I received a new wort cooler the other day from an online supply place (I was going to make one, but the price of copper is shooting through the roof)... anyway, I "attempted" to make a batch of beer last night and i...

Orange Peel

I thought I posted this earlier, but I guess I previewed... sorry for the delay in my reply. Thanks for all the replies. I found a sweet orange flavoring from the supplier I order from over the Internet. (see link) http://www.austinhomebrew.com/product_info.php?cPath=178_21_75&products_id=469 Th...

Thanks for the info. My first instinct was to use the zest... probably what I will end up trying. I was not looking for any color and was primarily wanting the orange in the beer for novelty more than much flavor, but I would like it to add something to the beer.

Orange Peel

I want to add orange peel to an amber ale (My wife is a University of Texas grad and I am brewing a "Hook-em Ale" for this years UT football games... they are burnt orange... the beer is a light amber), but I have never used this ingredient before. There are two types from what I have seen...
