will my yeast activate

If there was swelling of the packet, the yeast should be fine. If you have a brew store nearby with the same type of yeast, or a similar type, it won't hurt the beer to add more. Generally speaking, I like to add as much yeast as possible to start the ferment ASAP. Starting with less just means your...

Water, water everywhere, nor any drop to brew with...

Hi gang, It's been a while but I'm back with another ridiculous, er... good question. I live in mid-Missouri where the water is very hard. How hard, we've lived here for a year and we're replacing our coffee machine due to unyielding hard water deps. The other frustration is that my recipes, tried a...

Way to go BB!

I too have been interested in entering some competition, but don't know much about the process. I don't know of anything within a few hours of here either, and that hampers my entry. As for your placing, I think there's no greater or more pleasing event for a brewer than to have his/her brew appreci...

Aluminum info

There was a recent discussion about using aluminum pots on this forum. Try this link http://www.beertools.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1230 as well as the link within that discussion to an even earlier discussion.

Good luck and have fun!

So where would you buy this filter?

I've noticed an occasional headache as well, and get my cylinder from a welding supply place in town. I know that "sometimes" I probably imbibe a little too much alcohol and not enough water, but I do drink a fair amount of water and usually don't get dehydrated.

what state?

What state do you live in? I ask because that'll factor into shipping charges. Thanks

5 gallon cornies $9.99

www.betbev.com is selling off their cornies for $9.99 each. The downside is that shipping is about $12.50 per keg, but that still gets you under the $25 you mentioned. I couldn't find anywhere local that had kegs to sell, and this option worked for me. If you have connections in California near the ...

keg to bottle procedures

Alright keggers, help me out... If you are heading to a gathering and want to carry along some of your favorite brew, do any of you have preferred methods for filling a growler or a couple of bottles without wasting a bunch due to foaming? Thanks in advance.

No flaked used in this recipe

Sorry... I wasn't clear. I didn't use any flaked, and am wondering if I should add a bit to the recipe. Thanks in advance!

flaked barley

Let us know how that flaked barley works for head retention. I recently brewed a great coffee stout and kegged it. It comes off with a good head, and holds a little, but after a few minutes it's pretty thin. The beer however is just as fine as I had hoped.

Happy-hoppy Pale Ale recipe question

I wanted to try the Happy-hoppy PA mini-mash recipe found on this site, and am hoping (hopping?) that "richanne" who put the recipe up will see this and reply. The recipe calls for three hop additions, the last being 1 oz of Cascade in the last minute of the boil. The directions call for d...

You'll add pressure

You will need to purchase a CO2 tank or one of the CO2 cartridge injectors to keep the pressure up for dispensing. You don't want to use one of the hand pumps as this will introduce anything in the outside air (including oxygen) into the tank, spoiling your beer. As long as it's under CO2 it'll keep...

Sampling one now...

I've got a delicious bock that's been in the keg for just over 2 weeks that I primed with sugar. It's very good.

Cheers!

increase pressure?

Should I increase the pressure a bit to compensate for the lowered temp, or not worry about it?

And BB, I owe you for all the help. If you're ever passin' through Missouri, just let me know.
