I made an outstanding Scotch Ale a few years ago

Here's my recipe for Scotch Ale: http://www.beertools.com/html/recipe.php?view=4219 Look it over and see if it can help you with your recipe. This recipe won 2nd place (Strong Ale category) at the state fair in 2005. I still have a few bottles in my basement that are going on 5 years old. I am going...

May have found the DIY wet dream!!!

I was surfing craigslist and may have hit a load that I must share! http://eastky.craigslist.org/bfs/1360519384.html I intend to contact the seller to see if they have steel drums that are not lined with plastic. Must see for all the DIY guys that are driving distance from Lexington KY. After seeing...

Bottling Bucket

I use my bottling bucket to hold hot sparge water. I mash in a cooler. The bottling bucket sits on top of the cooler and the spigot fits into a PVC pipe that leads to the manifold (sprinkler) I fabricated and attached to the inside of the cooler lid. I fill it with nearly boiling water and it cools ...

similar brew

I used McEwans flavor as a guide when I brewed a Scotch Ale a few years ago. It turned out excellent. Look in the recipes here at beertools. Stranglehold Naked Beneath the Kilt Ale. It won 2nd place in the Strong Ale categoty at the 2005 KY State Fair Thick, malty and has ruby highlights if you tilt...

Cellering Success!

Happy to announce that the Wee Heavy that has rested in my basement for over a year is even better today! I brewed "Naked Beneath the Kilt" on OCT 16 2004. It fermented for 200 days in 3 fermenters. I bottled it on May 14 2005. I will have to brew another batch of this for Christmas 2010! ...

Winner (almost)

Good news! The beer must be right on target for the style. I won 2nd place in the strong ale category at the KY state fair with this beer. Judging was on 14AUG, so it must have been a good age on that day. The results of the 2005 KY State fair homebrew competition are available on the LAGERS homebre...

Homebrewing DVD

I would like to see a homebrewing DVD! I have read, surfed, and experimented and have become a pretty good brewer. However. . . Since my recient transition to all grain brewing I get more uptight that I am not doing things exactly correct. Reading is not the same as observing it being done. I have g...

Speciality Grains and all grain brewing

I am an extract w/specialty grains brewer from way back. I have had excellent results steeping the grains for these recipes. I brewed my first all grain batch Saturday. Most of the literature I have researched is unclear about what to do with the specialty grain (crystal malt etc) in an all grain pr...

It can work

You can make the store bought kegerator work for corneys.

Just take the outlet hose off of the Sanke tap and fit it onto your Corney outlet post.

Engineering is easy.

Well water

One of the best batches of beer I ever made was when I used water from my mother-in-law's well. That water is very hard. It is loaded with limestone and my pale ale was excellent. Why'd she have to move back to the city? I live in Louisville KY. I have no problems using water straight from the tap (...
