My first try at a lager. Honey Pils. OG 1052 FG 1012. The only thing I have is a somewhat cold spot, 50deg, in my basement. I did move it to an unheated garage, it was there for about 3 weeks, 30-40 deg temps. had to bring it inside last week cause it was below 0 and heard frozen beer wasnt the best...

Water.....

I live in the Burbs of Chicago. I have been doing all grain brewing for just under a year and (in my opnion) made some good brews. I have never used anything but tap water, never had it tested, dont know the Ph or anything... Am I in the minority?

Re: Primary fermintation

Safal-05. It has been near my heat vent up stairs for the past 2 weeks. I have made this beer a number of times before and have always had good fermentation down to 1.010 by the 21 day mark....

liquid vs dry yeast

Does liquid yeast take longer to eat the sugar than dry yeast? We have had a cream ale in primary firmintation for a week now and it is still bubbling. I know its a good thing and I am just letting it do its thing. Does liquid yeast eat longer and slower than dry yeast? is one better than the other?...

No sparge brew

Sorry, nubee here again.. On our first try of AG we made a cream ale, recipe said we should get an OG reading of 1.054 and we made it to 1.051, close enough from what I understand. My son wants to try a "no sparge" batch. We realize it will require more grains, he figures 1.2 lbs per 1 lb of recipe,...
