My system
I really don't have a system in mind. I don't know any systems. I have seen the various setups in morebeers catalog and such. The guys at my local brew shops have described it to me several times. But my problem is, I have never even seen it done, much less had a hand in it. I am really starting thi...

Another question--This time, All Grain
Now that I have been extract brewing for quite awhile, I am making the jump to all grain. My extract has been done in a turkey fryer all this time and I bought a second one to go to all grain. What should my next step be? I don't want to extract on my next batch so I am ready to do what it takes. I ...

Help with Fermataps
Dows anyone have any experiance with these? I recently purchased one and am in the process of using it the first time. Fermentation is done and I am trying to drain the yeast and hop residue from the bottom. The problem that I am having is, I am losing alot of beer. The stuff draining out starts off...

Brewing indoors
At this point I brew in my garage. Clean up is easier and the wife does not "complain" about the smell. (I know, I know whats to complain about) Anyway, my questions is this, does propane burn clean enough that I can use my turkey fryer burner indoors without killing myself with gas fumes....

That helps
Thanks darted. The only thing I am wondering is, does a blow off tube need to be connected to the vent? Or can the vent just sit there open? It seems to me that that would allow impurities to enter the wort. Am I wrong? Thanks in advance for your help.

2 questions--Pumpkin ale and fermataps
They are not related to each other. I do have 2 questions though. 1) I brewed a Pumpkin Ale about 3 weeks ago. Today when I woke up there was a froth on the top of it. I took a reading a week ago, and was at my target FG. I have not taken another to see if maybe it was still fermenting. Is that poss...

Going all grain
I am going to make the plunge and go all grain. When I do it though I want to do it right. Can you guys and your VAST knowledge ;) put all grain in to laymans terms for me. For instance, I see alot of talk about mash effiecentcy. What is that exactly? How does it pertain to brewing? How do you calcu...

No lid
I do not leave the lid on at anytime.
Thanks for the tip on Whirlpooling. I plan on doing a batch this weekend and I will give that a shot. Should I wait until the wort gets down to temp, or do it right away?

Nothing Special
I am just using regular Mutons products. No specialty malts at all.
One question about your last response, what do you mean after whirlpooling? I do boil for a minimum of 60 minutes but I'm not sure what you mean by whirlpooling.
Thanks again for any help.

Thanks Mesa, but.....
I am using Irish Moss. I'll try hydrating it next time. I've never tried that before. I honestly have no idea what it is that is causing the haze. All I know is, if I pour the beer at room temp, it is crystal clear. If it is cold, you can not see through it at all. I am an extract brewer if that mak...

Cold Haze
What is the best way to get rid of a cold haze? The last 3 or 4 batches I have made have come out a great color and crystal clear when at room temp. The problem that I am having is, like most Americans, I like to drink cold beer. When I chill the beer it turns very cloudy. It still tastes good, but ...

Fruit beers and sanitation
I am trying my hand at a fruit beer. I cooked it last night and from what I have been told, I should put the fruit in at the secondary. My question is, how should I clean the fruit? I assume that the inside of the fruit would be considered sanitary, but how should I go about cleaning the fruit so as...

Two quick questions
1) How long will a mead last once it has been bottled. I am going to try my hand in making one for the first time this evening. My wife is pregnant (due July 23) and I was wondering, will it still be good if I were to save it for 21 years? Also, how long should it ferment before bottling? 2) How can...
