How long can I leave my brew in the secondary ? I am gonna prime with the "gyle" method and am curious if there is a time limit on it. i.e. will my yeast die and not carbonate if I wait too long ? I am outta bottles and I am broke, so i need more time to purchuse some more... thanks FB

Stuck Ferm, what next ?

Ok, well like my formentioned post about the temp drop and the fermentation coming to a halt, I took the advice of "Rouseing the yeast". I shook the fermentor after raising the temp and noted activity after a few hours. So the next day I think i screwed it up, I racked it to my secondary a...

Temp drop in 2nd day of Primary

Everything was chugging along, about 10 hours after pitching the yeast. I am on my 3rd day of Primary Fermentation and when checking the temp i was sitting at 60F it appears that the bubbling have stopped. Could this drastic temp change cause the ferm to stop ? Or should it start back up when I get ...

Gyle > Priming > Corn Sugar

Working on another Partial-Mash Kit that came with corn sugar to prime. After reading different resources I found that I can save a small amount of wort before I pitch the yeast and then prime the bottleing bucket with the fresh wort that I saved. Can someone tell me if they have ever run into a pro...

Aeration & Airpumps

Reading more and more into the tech stuff of brewing and working on another batch, I read that using an air difusser and pump can help with a rapid and very productive fermentation. My questions are as follows : 1. Can I go buy a regular fish tank pump and some tubing with an air-stone ? 2. After th...

Copper vs. Brass

Thinking of building a wort chiller and curious if I should use copper or brass tubing ?
I remember hearing one of these elements was not the best choice due to
the metal contributing to off flavors. Can someone clairify this one for me ?

Bottling Blues...

First time to bottle and I used the bottling bucket. I attached my hose and bottle filler to the spigot. But it was a gusher, the flow was very intense and I noted lots of bubbles and the like. I was curious if there is a better way to do it ? But all and all the first batch of "Amber Ale"...
