Late Addition (Kettle) Function
Hi All: I notice that with extract I have the option of boil (Kettle) or late extract (Kettle) and that I can specify how long it was boiled. I notice that by switching back and forth between the Boil and Late Addition the estimated Bitterness changes. However, I noticed changing the boil time of th...

Re: I must be dumb...where is the link for the 1.5 beta?
An email was sent this morning but it did not mention anything about an available download. BeerTools Pro 1.5 is in beta testing and will be released to the public in the coming months. We will send an email to announce the download when it becomes available. Thanks! So, no public beta like we had ...

Every brewer needs to determine the efficiency of their system. 75% is just a common efficiency. The two biggest factors influencing efficiency, either up or down, are degree of crush and volume. If you are sparging a partial mash grain bill with enough water for a full volume boil, you're going to...

Jawbox's list pretty much represents where I go, but I also use:
www.basicbrewing.com
Some CAMRA books I bought in England
Other peoples recipes on BeerTools, brewmonkey, and a few other places.

Re: mixing
is the water you add at the end thoroughly mixed into the wort? the heavy wort sits at the bottom of the carboy, so your readings might be diluted and thus pretty low. (look for a color gradient to see if there is stratification.) If you have diluted to the expected volume, mixing is almost always ...

Re: Formula for mash efficiency.
Even when mashing in this way the MAXIMUM efficiency you can get is 86% . I continuously see homebrewers who state that they have 90-100% efficiency. This is impossible and I can only guess they are getting actual efficiency confused with getting 90 to 100% of what they calculated when formulating ...

Re: Frozen grain=amazing mash efficiency?
OK, i normally get a very good mash efficiency anyway, around 85 - 90%, but for the last 2 brews ive used grain that has been stored in the freezer, i crack it whilst still semi frozen and mash the next day,the results are phenominal as my efficiency has risen by 5% or more, hitting 99 and 97% resp...

In the session menu, there's a choice for utilization. Did you check to make sure the utilization formula is the same as what you originally used? Yes, the basic does not have a gravity correction. I've started using the Rager formula because I heard about it on the Jamil Show Podcast. What I would...

Right, 1.081 predicted at 75% efficiency, not 120%. By the way, when I do a partial mash, I measure the volume and take a gravity reading from my combined runoff. This gives me the total gravity contribution I'm going to actually get from my mash. I then calculate how much extract I need to hit my ...

I opened up your recipe, but I am not sure I follow your description of the problem. The recipe shows 1.081 as the predicted OG. What reading did you get when you brewed the recipe? The predicted gravity is 1.081 WITH the maple syrup added, mine is 1.080 without the maple. It should be 1.068 withou...

Hi All:
I developed the recipe listed below using Beertools and Ray Daniels book to be a Maple Syrup Old Ale. I mashed the grains with an initial temperature of 154

Can you send one or two of the problem recipes to us? You can use the contact@ address. I am not sure if one of the updates fixed it, but it is working great now. Many thanks if you did something (and even if you did not). Have to say I love this program. It is so much fun to create something on th...

Importing and Exporting BeerXML
I tried to import a couple of recipes from BrewMonkey.com that were in beerxml format and BeerTools Pro refused to open them. The ones I tried were germanchoco.xml (a Bock) and Schwarzbieresque.xml (a dark lager). Any idea what the problem might be? I assume there are plans to add a BeerXML export f...
