Syrup

I do know of a microbrewery around here that actually adds maple syrup to its brown ale in secondary without issues. However I might recommend this procedure if you pasteurize the syrup before adding.

1st step to making the jump

The very first thing you need to decide is how big you want your system to be ( 5 gallons, 10 etc ). Remember unlike extract you will be boiling your enire batch. So if you want 5 gals of beer you will need a pot you can boil all 5 gals. I say this because I am little worried about the volume of a t...

Priming

For the type of beer you have brewed I doubt you will notice much of an "extra" flavor change with the addition of Choc. DME. Due to the amount normally used for priming. However one benefit of priming with DME ( in my own experience ) was overall flavor. When I was bottling using corn sug...

Which ever you choose stick with single step mash

My first all grain batch was a stout. My thought was a single step mash so I could concentrate on the system and a beer dark enough to hide any possible imperfections ( clarity, minor off flavors etc. ) but still be able to be proud enough to serve friends, say hey this was my 1st all grain batch. G...

Uhhhh...

I could be wrong on this, but I wouldn't think the dye they use on pantyhose would be safe for human consumption. But if it is, I think it would most definitely cause an off flavor. Of course I have absolutely no background in hosiery.

Tough One

Out of the selection I would have to go with the celebration clone, possibly with little less bittering hops or the Brown. I might suggest a lightly spiced belgium trippel style. Light in color, big on warming and the style makes a great winter beer. Might make a few light lager types see that not a...

Should be fine

I recently found a box I had lost during a move a couple of years ago. Inside was some 5 year old dark wheat extract, I purchased some liquid yeast without a starter and it brewed up just fine. Unless its crystallized I am sure its fine. I would suggest using more than one can of extract though if i...

adding syrup

I don't know if it helps but there is a local brewery who produces a Maple nut Brown and after taking the tour they indicated they simply add in the maple syrup in secondary without any special prep ( boil etc ).
