Thanks, I brewed it yesterday and used 1 1/2 tsp of ground cinnamon, put it in the boil with 30min left, the wort tasted pretty good so I think that is the amount I was looking for.

cinnamon beer

I am going to make a "holiday" beer, an amber ale with cinnamon. All grain 5 gallon final volume.

How much cinnamon should I put in the boil and how long to get a taste of cinnamon , I don't want it to over power the beer.

I brew all summer with my ac at 74, in southern middle Tennessee. I fill the tub in my guest bathroom with water and put the carboy in it. Then wrap a towel around the carboy and pour water on it a couple of times a day. I also freeze 3 liter coke bottles full of water and put one in the tub each da...

Roasting my own Malt

Has anyone here tried roasting their own malt?

I will be buying a 50# bag of Briess 2 row, I was thinking of trying to roast a few pounds to make my own chocolate malt.

Any comments, suggestions?

Thanks

my first all grain

After 10 years of extract brewing I finally made my first all grain brew. I bottled it on 5-4-2008 and tasted it today 5-30-2008. I made a double chocolate stout that I have made at least 10 times, merely converted my extract recipe to all grain. The funny thing is that after all my attention to det...

Roller Mill

I was thinking of making my own roller mill. I can get solid aluminum for the rollers and it would be much easier for me to work with because of my limited tool shop. I worked in a machine shop many years ago, so I should be able to build it. I know aluminum is not as hard as steel but I think that ...

Thanks for the replies, I just bit the bullet and bought a chiller from Alternative Beverage. It worked very well.

culturing yeast from bottle beer

Has anyone tried culturing yeast from bottled homebrew? I have always wanted to try it with my homebrews that were successful. My degree is in cell biology so I understand the concept pretty well.

I was wondering about how well it works in the real beer world. :)

thanks

how long can grains be stored

I was thinking of buying a 50# bag of Briess 2 row and crack it as I use it.

How long will this last?

What is the best storage method?

It will take me about a year to use it up.

Thanks

Grain Mill

I am looking for recommendations for an inexpensive grain mill.
Or should I buy my grain already cracked?

Thanks

wort chiller

I went to Lowes last night to check out copper tubing and 20' of 3/8" was $68.

Is it possible to use PVC tubing (or any other type) for a wort chiller?

I know that copper has better heat transfer but with pvc a longer coil could easily be made.

thanks

5 or 10 gallon cooler?

After 10 years of extract brewing I have decided to try all grain. I am going to make my own mash tun from a beverage cooler. I wanted to get a ten gallon but no one seems to carry those locally. Will a 5 gallon cooler do the job for 5 gallon batches of finished beer, mostly stouts? Any additional a...

Thanks for the reply, and please excuse my ignorance, but what do you mean by "corny ket"

Also, how do you keep the mash temp up with a plastic mash tun?

thanks
