Ingredients (All Grain5 gal)

  • 13 lbs Premium 2-Row Malt;Great Western

    Premium 2-Row Malt;Great Western

Our most popular base malt, perfect for all beer styles, especially American ales and lagers. With moderate protein and enzyme levels and a very clean, smooth finish, our Premium 2-Row Malt is ideal for all-malt beers and for mashes containing moderate levels of adjunct.

  • 1 lbs Caramel Vienne 20L Malt;Briess

    Caramel Vienne 20L Malt;Briess

Caramel, malty flavor. Golden color. Characteristics & Applications: • Caramel Vienne 20L Malt is a caramel malt that contributes both mild caramel sweetness and maltiness. • Excellent in Vienna-style Lagers and Belgian-style Abbey Ales. • Produced from AMBA/BMBRI recommended 2-Row Malting Barley varieties.

  • 1 lbs 2-Row Caramel Malt 10L;Briess

    2-Row Caramel Malt 10L;Briess

Golden color and a candy like sweetness. Characteristics & Applications: • In contrast to Brewers Malt, glassiness is a distinguishing characteristic of Caramel Malt. The glassy endosperm creates the desirable non-fermentable components giving true Caramel Malt the ability to contribute body (mouthfeel), foam foam retention, and extended beer stability, while contributing color and unique caramel flavor. • Caramel 10L is a roasted caramel malt that imparts golden color. • Use 3-7% for Pilsener-style beers for balance. • Use 5-15% to provide color, sweetness and color to light amber beers. • Produced from AMBA/BMBRI recommended 2-Row Malting Barley varieties.

  • .5 lbs Cara-Pils® Malt;Briess

    Cara-Pils® Malt;Briess

Characteristics & Applications: • The endosperm is completely glassy and will appear to be darker than standard Brewers Malt. • Carapils® is a very unique dextrine-style malt that adds body, foam retention, and beer stability without influencing color or flavor. • Use to upgrade all types of beer, including light colored beers. • The non-fermentables in Carapils® are very advantageous in balancing body and flavor of dark colored beers. • May be used with or without other specialty malts. • Low usage of 1-5% will help achieve desired results. • Produced from AMBA/BMBRI recommended 2-Row Malting Barley varieties.

Notes

Clone based on West Coaster "Behind the Brew" - Ballast Point Sculpin IPA but adding grapefruit juice. There is mash hopping, A low step mash temperature (146-150F/63-66 C) to produce more sugar and better attenuation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_11Yn7V9UM Split 1 oz each of Columbus cascade and chinook into 4 groups .25 oz each hop. 1/4 Mash hopped, 1/4 bittering hop 60 minutes and 1/4 30 minutes and 1/4 in whirlpool. Aroma hops are added to whirlpool. My deviation from the recipe is adding Citra hop which is a personal favorite of mine. 1 oz of each in whirlpool and dry hop. http://www.ballastpoint.com/beer/grapefruit-sculpin/ Also referenced http://www.themadfermentationist.com/2013/06/grapefruit-american-pale-ale-recipe.html OG Before Adding Juice 1.062, after 1.055
