Actually I started home brewing back in the early 60's with a ten gallon crock pot, Allstar yeast and a can of malt syrup. I bottled the beer in the old clear quart bottles of Millers.

I have been doing all grain for about 6 years and would never go back to extract or bottling.

By the way Azor, have you ever eaten at Gerhards in Spartanburg? A neat Austrian style restaurant that serves a good variety of imports. Something you don't see much in Spartanburg.

I started brewing in 94. I do extract with grains and have great results with it.

Back in Nov I brewed 15 gal batch of strong scotch ale.
Brewing again next week and not sure what to do this time.
Any suggestions or recipes?

If there is anyone local to Mass that could get me into all grain brewing shoot me a PM.

Cheers,
BH

Extract with grains for me. And I am perfectly happy where I am at and the beer I make. I don't really have an intrest in going to all grain.

Extract what??

Post by lov2cook4u »

So to be honest I don't even think I know how to brew a beer with extract or even partial mash? Honestly.... All my years of brewing, 18, I think i have only done one extract and that was my first beer. I have often thought about trying one to see if my flavor of beer would change??? don't know? There is just so much I would miss, from the smell of the grains in the mill, the develpment of the mash as I step through my mast temps... To the sparge.. my fav part.... I am sure there are great moments for all brewers no matter what method you use.. Keep brewing and have fun... Scott

First timer, extract only. Hope to go move on though.
Brewing a traditional bitter, but dry hopping in secondary.
Can't wait.

recasting my vote, ive moved to all grain now. a friend donated a commercial frig to my operation allows me to age/lager 36 cornies in the bottom half. Also I've connected with locol brewpub for free yeast and grain at cost, what a fantastic amount of support there is when you go looking for it.

I started in all grain about 6 months ago, and have done 12 batches now. All IPA's except for one wonderful Stout.

Our beers are turning out fantastic! Just like cooking soup. I love it. I like the all grain process. It's a beautiful thing. ...whole grains, whole hops, yeast, and water,,,and heat...it's magic!

I am doing extract with partial mash, and am trying lagering for the first time! Had a little problem with my yeast not taking off as I had hoped, but it finally came around, and I should be racking to secondary next week!

Been doing partial mash since I started in 1990. I dont know why I havent made the jump to all grain. My wife and I are looking for our first house right now, so when we get into one, I think I'll make the switch to all grain!
