homemade sparge arm...

Post by arkiteqt »

Ok, I have never used a sparge arm before. I just let my boiler trickle into my lauter tun and run down the edge. I don't like doing it this way so I was thinking of making a sparge arm out of some left-over copper tubing. If I bent it into an "L" shape and drilled some 1/16" holes I could controll the flow w/ the ball valve on my boiler, therefore reducing the chances of the flow of sparge water cutting through my grain bed. Does that sound like it would work?

coiled arm

Take a look at the design at St.pats.com. It is a copper tube bend like a flat coil. I personnaly have found that a coffee can lid in the center keeps the water from cutting through and works just as well if you recirculate the first 2 qts.
