No head when in the refigerator

What went wrong? Was this supposed to happen? Should I throw it out? What do I do now?

Post by chylinski »

I have make a beer kit (bitter red) and it seems to loose carbonation when I refigerate it. room temp. its fine, I have used rice sugar and its been setting about 3 weeks now... Other than that it tasts great. (not flat just no head when cold)

probably undercarbonated

Warm beer tends to foam more than cold beer. If your beer is a little undercarbonated it might seem flat when cold. About two weeks at room temperature should be long enough to complete carbonation. Did you add 1/2 to 3/4 cup corn sugar per 5 gallons when you bottled?

2/3 cup

My mix calls for 2/3 cup of sugar. I made another batch this time I used 3/4 cup and left more space in the bottles. I it true over 3/4 cup will blow the bottles....How high can you go?

you could use more....

For a 5 gallon batch, you can safely use up to
one full cup of sugar for priming,I use this
amount consistantly, and have never had a bottle
explode on me in over twenty years.

Have you noticed a difference between glass and plastic bottles?
