Clone?

Post by BMartin »

What exactly is involved in making a clone? Do you just make a batch in the style that your favorite beer is..and then maybe add a few ingredients.? Or is there a real science to it?

cloning

A clone is an attemp to duplicate a commercial beer. There are recipe books available for clones of many popular brews. If you can't find a recipe then you could start out by brewing a beer in the same stlye as the one you want to clone adjusting amounts of each ingredient, types of malts used, hop varieties, yeast types etc. and brewing processes to try to match the flavor you want. It may take numerous batches to do this and you might not succeed but you might brew something even better than the one you want to clone.
