Magnetic Stirrer Mishap

What went wrong? Was this supposed to happen? Should I throw it out? What do I do now?

Magnetic Stirrer Mishap

Post by andytv »

Well it happened.... Despite the warnings, I continued to use yeast starters prepared with my magnetic stirrer with a normal airlock. I heard a loud noise in my "beer room' last night. Wen I went to investigate, I found that the fermentation was so active that it lifted the lid off of my 15 gallon fermenter and tossed it on the floor. There is also quite a mess from the foam dripping onto the floor. I'm not sure what to do for futre batches to prevent this. I guess I'll duct tape the lid down, and use a big blowoff tube.

Well at least there were no walls to clean and you know for sure your yeast has the upper hand on start up.

Now the 54 million dollar question: Does this make a difference in the taste of the beer?
