Reaching starting gravity?

Post by hankster »

In using Beer Tool Gold I have found that I have yet to reach what Beer Tools thinks should be the staring gravity. I took a chance on my last batch and decided to Edit the starting gravity from 72%, which the program seem to set as a default, to a lesser % and kept increasing the Malts until I found that I was probably only getting 64% from my mash. Any comments? Tnx! Hank

Hank,

PH can dramatically affect your effeciency, also are you performing an Iodine test to see if you have reached full conversion?
