Timers, timers and more timers

Post by pfooti »

I brew with a laptop in my brewhouse. I print out the actual recipe (and annotate it), but I also keep a laptop handy. In general I'd like to see stuff like:

"Hey, I just officially started boiling this wort- please set up timers for the various hop, nutrient, and whirlfloc additions".

"Hey, I just started my first sac rest- please set up timers (based on what you know from calibration about my heat sources and vessels) to remind me to start heating my sparge water"

"Hey, I've added these recipes to my "planned recipes" list. Ask me when the brewdate is and remind me 2 days earlier to make my yeast starter."

In a related frame-

"Hey, I've added these recipes to my "planned recipes" list. Please coordinate with the My Ingredients database and generate a shopping list."

And as a bonus, sync all these timers and reminders to my smartphone.

PS: You'll see that I'm making a TON of feature requests. That's just the way I am. I love BTP and am happy with it the way it is, I just like pushing on the UX edge.

If you need a timer try this one that I made. http://www.beerbelliesbrew.com/BDT/BDTInstall.exe

You can export your recipe from BTP in the BeerXML format and import it into my timer.

And the best thing, it's free.

Timer App

For those interested just found a brew timer for the iPhone. Looks like you can import a beer XML file and all your times for mash, hops will be loaded. Haven't had chance to try it as I'm currently in the hospital with my new born daughter.

small problem, check out the info screen

as of march 2011 beer tools pro does not export the mash schedule to the beerxml file. plus dry hop additions are sent out as 0 min boil additions.

looks like you can edit the mash steps within the app.

going to put in a feature request.
