Starter for Tripel

Postby cggAK » Tue Nov 02, 2010 10:45 am

Am planning on brewing a tripel this weekend. I bought two smack packs of Belgian Abby II.

My question: What are the pros and cons of pitching each pack into a separate 1L starters VS pitching both packs into a single 1L starter?

Thanks.

Two packs into 2 liters will probably give you approximately twice as much yeast as two packs into 1 liter. You should try using the yeast pitching rate calculator at mrmalty.com to determine how big a starter you should use for the beer you are making.

What is your intended OG?

Intended OG is 1.075, 6 gal.

Mr. Malty's calculator says 2 packs to make a 1.61L starter for that OG, volume of wort, and date on yeast packs.

The light shines on the path ahead.

Thanks.
