SRM Estimations: Estimation of darkness only or also color?

Does the beer tools picture of your beer only take into account the general "darkness" of the beer via SRM or does it look at the amount of each color pigment in each malt? -It seems that Red beers always appear brown in beer tools and that it's only looking at the relative darkness of the beer and not how Red it is; is this a fair statement?
