Hop Flowers vs. Pellets

Post by jccturf »

I have only used pellets until recently, I bought some pellets and 1 oz of flower plugs. Is 1 ounce of flower plugs the same as 1 once of pellets? I read somewhere that flowers are about 10x more potent than pellets

Hops

An ounce of hop cones is virtually interchangeable with an ounce of hop pellets.
The cones are 90% as efficient as pellets, which you can adjust for by using 10% more, but it won't usually make a noticeable difference.

wet vs. dried

Isn't that only if the cones have been dried? I've seen places that sell "wet" hop cones and those are certainly not at a 1:1 ratio with pellets.

You can lose 50%-70% of a cones' weight by drying so if you're getting wet cones I'd buy more accordingly.

Yes, fresh, undried hop cones are roughly 5 times less potent than dried hops.
