How bad/good are plastic bottles?

So I'm about to rack my beer to bottles in probably a few days and was wondering how plastic bottles are. I've only used my dad's old Grolsch bottles but he doesn't have enough for 5 gallons of beer so I've always had to toss out probably 3-4 litres each batch I've made.

Now I don't want to toss out any this time but also don't wanna spend the money on more Grolsch/glass bottles if plastic works as good for cheaper.

I've used plastic bottles for part of a batch for bringing to the beach, and they worked fine. I never kept them around more than a month or so, so I don't know about long term. JUst keep the beer out of the light if you use clear bottles.

Why don't you just reuse regular beer bottles, though. They're free.
