wort chiller

Post by cyto »

I went to Lowes last night to check out copper tubing and 20' of 3/8" was $68.

Is it possible to use PVC tubing (or any other type) for a wort chiller?

I know that copper has better heat transfer but with pvc a longer coil could easily be made.

thanks

It is a thought but, I do not think you will get the performance you will be looking for.
*What would be tha cost for the PVC?
*What is the time taken to cool the wort with PVC?

Check ebay for copper tubing. I just bought 100' for $74 plus shipping. I built a 50' wort chiller for myself and plan to build two 25' chillers to sell on ebay to recoup my original cost.

Good luck.

Thanks for the replies, I just bit the bullet and bought a chiller from Alternative Beverage. It worked very well.
