hop calculation formula used

Post by bruerik »

for all of you using the hop formula in the btp, which one do you use. I have noticed that Rager is a bit high since his utilization is at 30%, and I know most homebrewers it is more like 25% instead. I read that tinseth is the most accurate, but what is the opinion of the more experienced users of btp on it.

Thanks
Erik

I use Tinseth. From what I've read, it's most accurate for full boils. But, all of the formulas are just estimates anyway, so the best advice is to choose one, get used to what the number means to you, and then adjust your hops from there. That way if you are going for 40 IBUs on your system, you'll know pretty much what that means to your taste buds.
