Database additions
Database for equipment...
Hello Everyone, jawbox wrote:Database for equipment please.
A number of you have asked for a database of equipment. Since we are unsure of what equipment specs you would like added to BTP we will call upon you. We have started a topic specifically for equipment. Please post detailed equipment specs to the following post:
Here is a link to the equipment topic.

Golden Naked Oats seem to be included in beertools.com but not in BeerTools Pro. I don't see any Weyermann extract either (data in www.weyermann.de). I would also like very much to see invert sugar added to the database (we hardly use glucose down here).

I forgot to mention wheat flour, for Wit beers, or can I safely add them as wheat raw instead?

Tell that to the author of Belgian Ale on the Classic Beer Style Series! He is then cheating in two recipes, one for Oud Bruin and one for Wit. Never used that but I am considering checking how good a cheater I am .

Flour -- as a matter of fact ...
As a matter of fact, I'm drinking one of my Cherry Wheat beers right now; tastes pretty good.
Edit/Snip ... didn't have a value for flour, so I used the "white wheat", which in retrospect I think caused BTP to predict a lower OG than I actually achieved. To make a long story short, my OG was much higher than I expected; I assumed it was due to flour having more starch, pound for pound, than whole grain, and also because, due to the fineness of the flour, a much higher percentage of efficiency. ... Edit/Snip
Anyway, I will second the suggestion that "flour" be included in the database.
Cheers.

I am not sure this is the topic to discuss this but since we are on the subject I shall say that once I bottled a batch too soon and got too much carbonation as well. I then opened up all the bottles, let the foam flow out and recaped the bottles. Carbonation was good after that and this beer even got second place in our local contest (although it was a small one, with only 12 types of pale ales).

More about flour
You are correct. I should have just briefly seconded the suggestion that "flour" be included in the db, and then posted the longer discussion of my problem in the "Brewing Problems ..." forum; I've reposted it there for anyone who wants to read it, and for any second opinions. Can't find a delete button to remove my post from this forum, so I'll edit it to reduce its content. Anyway, thanks for the help. Despite the gushing and too much alcohol, my beer tastes pretty good, so flour is definitely a legitimate ingredient needed in the database.rrosa wrote:I am not sure this is the topic to discuss this ... snip

Orange Marmalade
Some people use it in Wits in place of the bitter orange peel. It would be nice to have it in the DB for Special Ingredients. I haven't tried it yet, but will be in a couple of weeks.
I just noticed an error in the database (didn't know if I should post under 'bug' thread or this one - feel free to move the post). The color of Weyermann Carahell (both regular and organic) should be 10L.
