324 % Efficiency Question ?

Post by stevie.o »

Sorry
I know this has been asked before.... but I could not find the thread.

I've got a Recipe with a Mash Effieciency of 324.7 %

I'm not sure what I didi to get there?????
Or how to get it Back to a Real Number

Heck if I could get that kinda efficiency I'd be making good money !

Thanks
Steve

Are you sure all the numbers are enterred correctly?
It sound like a volume or a grain weight was entered way to low, or an OG was way to high. I'd look for a misplaced decimal point.

324 % Efficiency Question ?

Post by stevie.o »

Nope - none that I can find.....
I'm making a IPA clone, Extract 6lbs
1lb of steeping grain
my hops are 4 oz total... but
5 gallon batch
All units are uniform - OZ for Hops LBS for Extract, Gallons for Water....?

?

324 % Efficiency Question ?

Actually if I put in the 75% efficancy
BTP adds 3.3 Lbs of grain to my steeping grain for a total of 4.3 lbs

This has something to do with the efficiency of Extract doesn't it
??????????????

If you can replicate the error, you might post it in the bugs thread.

I can't replicate the error.
One of recipes just turned up this way.
I re-did the recipe again and got normal numbers....?

Hi, Steve. I don't use extracts, but from playing about with BTP a bit, I'm pretty sure that efficiency settings do not apply to extracts. I just tried an experiment, and the OG was completely unaffected by whether I had efficiency set at 50% or 100%. That makes sense, when you think about it, because 'efficiency' is the amount of sugar you are extracting from your mash, which is completely inapplicable to extracts. Now, I reported a bug sometime back regarding how BTP is handling steeping of specialty grains, but I don't think that has been addressed yet.

Cheers.

I'm not a BTP user (STILL waiting for a demo..) and as such I don't know how the efficiency is handled, BUT there is Mash efficiency and there is Total System Efficiency. MASH efficiency will not apply to extracts as Bill said, but total system efficiency also takes into account the water losses from kettle and mash tun dead space, boil off, water absorption by hops and trub etc., which would apply to extract as well as all other types of brewing.

Again, I don't know hot BTP handles this, and I certainly don't know if it applies to this particular problem, just adding my 2 cents.
