Can you store grain in the freezer ?

Post by Azorean Brewer »

I have always been told that you should store grain in an air tight container. My problem is I have two recipes worth of grain (approx. 25 lbs. total 20# base and 5# specialty) and I know that grain moths love to get into this stuff. What I want to know is can you store grain in the freezer without harming any of the fermentables. Has anyone tried this or know any reasons why not to do this? I don't have an air tight container large enough, but do have an upright freezer with enough room for what I need, but I don't want to put it in there until I hear differently... Thanks in advance, Paul.

Freezing Grains...

Yes... you can freeze grain without harming it.... in fact, just like with most food products, it increases shelf life. Another benefit is it kills any larvae or eggs from pests !

Mesa,
There is a television show on Comedy Central that reminds me of you every time I see it. It is called "Beat the Geeks." Check into it. :)

Don't be messin' with da Mesa

Post by Azorean Brewer »

Ford did you ever see the movie "A clock work Orange?", if Mesa gets pee'od and goes into hiding or stops answering our inquiries because of taunting we'll come after you with a vengence and make you drink so much Bud lite to the point where you will never want to look at beer again LOL ... Although I think Mesa won't go anywhere and can handle his own Battles, never ever ever provoke "Da Master". Cheers ... (just kidding I know it was a sidewards compliment LOL ...) OH BTW "A Clock work orange" is about a sexual deviant who is caught by the authorities and forced to watch porn for hours and hours to the point where he never wants to think about sex again. (Poor devil LOL ...)
Paul.

LMAO, Paul! You know, I just got back from the eye doc and going in I was actually thinking about that chair with the clips holding his eyes open. Fortunately, I did not have to endure that. Anyway, have you ever seen the show? (I know not everyone here lives in The States.) They have a movie, music and TV "geek" (expert) and one special guest geek (usually Star Trek, The Simpsons, South Park, etc.). The contestants have to "beat the geeks" in rounds of trivia and get bonus points for beating the special guest geek. Very hilarious show, so check it out if it airs in your area. I have always wanted to see a beer geek on the show and I think Mesa is the perfect candidate based on his posts on this board. How about it, Eric? http://www.comedycentral.com/tv_shows/beatthegeeks/

Yes, it apparently is. A while back he mentioned owning a business, so I went to http://www.MesaMaltworks.com and got a hit. There is a contact link there, but no telling if it is current. No matter, surely he will soon discover that he has been the subject of a few posts here.

#1: Gee...thanks.. I think?! & #2: Yup that's still me!

#1: I guess I fit the "geek" assessment, but I'm not 1 dimesional, I do have other interests !!! All kidding aside... I learn alot from reading all of your posts as well because they give me topics for research. I certainly do not know everything there is to know (NOT EVEN CLOSE!) in this hobby/profession and I continually strive to update my knowledge and proficiency. Thanks for your gracious comments ! Keep me learn'n !...

#2: Yes, www.mesamaltworks.com is my company's site and all is current except the brewspaper articles... I had intended to post all of them and only got to 1 ! The email address (ericwatson@mesamaltworks.com) will still be good til mid-May. After that the merger between my company and Ohio Brewing will be completed and our name will be under the OBC banner with Mesa existing no more as I will establish the laboratory there for internal use. Once I have the OBC site up and runnig, I'll post my new info to the forum.

Eric

PS: If you guys will sponsor me... I be the serve as the sacrificial "Beer Geek".

Mesa,
I will champion the effort to get you on the show. That would be classic. I will check my connections and get back to you. It may be a long shot, but we will see. You surely have many supporters here. :)

Buy an Ad?

Post by l48shark »

Well, it looks like this show is filmed in LA and not NYC, so there goes most of my network. Unless, of course, you want to buy some ad time for your newly merged company and then we're in business. Still trying though. :)
Cheers,
Ford
