BeerTools Pro vs Beersmith
BeerTools Pro vs Beersmith
Hello
I've buy Beertools Pro and I notice a difference between Beertools Pro and Beersmith with a receipe I wish to make : Irish Red Ale
On Beertools; I've a IBU of 45 (too hig), but on Beersmith I receive the target IBU: 25.7.
What's wrong, who are right? Or it is a bug?

How have you configured your %utilization algorithm? You can find it in Session->Utilization. Make sure the algorithm used is similar in both programs. Thanks!djavet wrote:Hello

Hello
I've just checked now and I can't understand. Sorry, I'm not a pro.
Here my Beersmith settings:
and yours:
I've always a difference (44.53 on BTP vs 25.7 IBU in Beersmith)
I use standard settings... i've only change the standard on BTP on Tinseth.
Could you help me a little more?
I find BTP better, but i've a make a recipe and the IBU are not realistic with the settings... I will turn my beer into something wrong and I will not be happy when I will drink my brew
Thx for your help.
Regards, Dom
PS: I'm the only one in that case?

IBU Differences
Thanks for the screenshots! Would you be able to send me a copy of both the BeerSmith recipe and the BTP recipe? I think looking at the actual recipes is the only way I can really see why there is a difference in the results, thanks!djavet wrote:I've always a difference (44.53 on BTP vs 25.7 IBU in Beersmith)

Could the discrepancy be because the Beersmith Recipe is set to a 60 minute boil time, but the hops are being added at 75 minutes? The program might be calculating the IBU based on 60 minutes.

BTP v2.0.* Windows XP
Boil Volume might be incorrect
Djavet, It seems the boil size might be incorrect on your Beersmith side (9L?). The Beersmith and BTP IBUs pretty much match up for me when I use Tinseth... and the same volumes.

You have the eyes of an eagle! I think you might be right.bzwrxbz wrote:Djavet, It seems the boil size might be incorrect on your Beersmith side (9L?). The Beersmith and BTP IBUs pretty much match up for me when I use Tinseth... and the same volumes.

Hope this will help:
Here's the recipes I use in Beersmith:
-> http://www.metadelic.com/upload/irish_red.bsm
And Beertools Pro version:
-> http://www.metadelic.com/upload/Irish_Red.btp
In my humble opinion, the Beersmith version are correct.
Feel free to download the recipe and test it. This one will be my next beer, monday a brew a "Daddy Porter", ready to drink in march 07 when my new child will com on earth!
Regards, Dom

Hello
Thx, I will check this. But I don't think this will change a lot things
IBU 25 vs IBU 45...
The difference are too high.
I will check it tonight and will poste the "new" recipe.
I will also use the online tool to make the recipe and check the online data.
Regards, Dom
PS: The same recipe for 19 l. give me a IB of 33 in Qbrew.. Once again, something else (Thinset checked)

I believe it is such a large difference in IBUs because your boil volume is so small in Beersmith. It seems like you have it a bit less than half of what it should be. This will hurt your bitterness by a large amount. (25 vs. 45IBUs).
If you increase your boil size in your Beersmith recipe, you will see that your IBUs will start matching much closer to your BTP values.
cheers!
