Immersion chillers

Post by Fraoch »

Thinking of putting an imersion ciller into my boiler, the problem is that it will be a complete pain to remove and refit each time as my opening at the top is only approx 6" diameter. Does anyone keep one in their boiler constantly??? The boil would certainly sanitise it but any downfalls that I may not be able to forsee??

I used an immersion chiller for quite some time. I finally got off my duff and made a counter flow chiller from copper. I'll never go back. It is the bees knees. I cooled boiling wort to 68f in 15 min. with 65f water. If the water is warmer, just slow down the flow from the kettle spout. Plus it will be external. It only takes two rolls of copper and some fittings if you can sweat copper together. Still hooks up to my hose and everything. Try it, thank me later.
