You entered a beer competition.
The judges that day were ones who didn't like smoked beers anyway, so they were going to look at your beer with raised eyebrows anyway. If you like it, be proud of it. I don't know if any of my beers would be prize winners, I have never tried, partially because I don't know of the competitions in our area, partially because it doesn't matter if someone else likes them or not. I am brewing for myself. That's the Home in Homebrewing.
