I believe to effectively help someone, you need to know what they know, otherwise your help might be too basic or too advanced. I brewed beer 20 years ago, never getting past the novice stage and just began again. Things have changed quite a bit, especially in the ingredients that are readily available, and in sanitation. I lost too much beer back then due to improper sanitation and gave up. We didn't have iodine, we all used bleach so everything needed to be rinsed, which is where I think I got a lot of my contaniments.
