Adding a weld-free spigot to a kettle: myth or reality?
Is there a way to add a spigot to a stainless steel brew kettle without welding? The kettle is a converted keg.
compression joints
The only way i know to do this is to use plumbers compression joints. The problem is that you then need to use brass. A spacer will have to be put between the nut and the curved wall of the kettle. This will need to be of a softer metal than the kettle, ie brass. You can shape the spacer by rubbing a cut piece of cylindrical, hollow tubing ( say brass) up and down the wall of the kettle with a little grinding paste between them. This will shape your spacer to an exact fit, giving you a good tight fit. It works as i know of someone who did what i have described to great effect. But we all know that stainless is the way to go and then you got to weld.
