Mash Hopping?

Post by derfburg21 »

Does BTP take into account the 20% decrease of the AA of hops for a mash hop addition? Do I need to use it as 20 min hop and just remember to add at Mash?

Sorry, I meant to get back to you.

There's no solid consensus on the contribution of some of these additions, so there is still no formula for BTP to use, so it is left to the brewer to decide their utilization.

First Wort Hopping would require you to change the boil time to 20', if you feel that 80% utilization accurately reflects your brewery.

Mash Hopping, however, is usually thought to have only 10-20% of the utiliztion of boiled hops, so I think that would be closer to a 5-10' addition.
