When I save a recipe as a temple and select which criteria I want to retain, I am prompted for a file name. I enter a file name and it appears to save the file but when I attempt to "load template" it cannot find it. When I look in the folder using Windows Explorer, the files are there.

It sounds like the files are missing the .btp file extension. Check to see if the filenames include the extension and then try to load them in BTP.
