Selecting the steeping (kettle) stage

Why is the stage drop-down menu grayed out when I highlight the grains in my recipe? I would like to select "Steep (Kettle)" and enter a time. The only ingredient this drop-down seems to be availabe for is the hops and special/other. Thanks.
