To all my beer bro's

Hey, thanks so much for taking the time everyone! This has been an invaluable resource for the last year or two. My mill is a home-made one but very effective. The rollers (3" rolling pins) are at around a sixteenth inch between 'em. With a 12 inch width, it makes 20 lbs. go quick. Amen to John...

Thanks for the help!

First, I did take my gravity reading at a higher temp., directly after sparging. Also, I did not slow down my syphon when transfering to my kettle. Second, I did not use a method to make sure all my sugars were extracted. My pH too is high out here in the country. I thought that the acidity in the m...

first batch of all grain problem

I was so hyped up about today. My brewing buddy and I were trying our hand at all grain for the first time after five years of malt extract. To make a long morning short, after mashing our grain at 154 degrees or so for 65 minutes, we ended up with a S.G. of under 1.020. We used 20 lbs of 2-row for ...

type of solder

Thanks for taking the time Andy. The label reads as follows; "For general electrical applications. 95% tin, 5% antimony, melts at 464 F, A medium melting alloy with fast acting flux". If it is a rosin flux, would I be safe using a wire brush to clean the inside, or would that have adverse ...

flux question

After finishing my lauder tun manifold, I discovered I had used electricians flux instead of plumbers. I read that it may contain lead and that would be no good. Since its in my lauder tun and not in my kettle, am I safe or do I need to bring another ten foot of tubing home and start again? Thanks e...

Thanks again

Thanks Mesa, as always a valuable source of comprehensive info. What do you think about the water heater idea? It seems to me an inexpensive vessel with all the needed valves, blowoffs and pipes all ready. Using a 30 gallon tank for a 20 gallon batch of beer should give me plenty of room for head sp...

a question for larger quantity brewers???

I'm in the process of going to a 25-30 gallon batch with my homebrew. The vessel I want to use for a fermenter is a glass lined 50 gallon water heater. The only problem (unless you know another LOL) is cleaning once the primary finishes. The inside is not easily accessible and I think I'll have to u...

must be Aluminum

That's the first thing I did. After I found no magnetivity, that's when I had to ask. The thing is, my brew pot does not attract magnets either. hmmmmmmm

Hmmmmmm

Magnets don't work on my stainless (at least I thought it was SS) brew pot or my sink. Are you sure about that? Thanks for the reply. Isn't this site great?!

you got it

That's exactly what he does. I've got a better idea though. We used to use a lot of plastic hose in a cooler between a 1/2 barrel and tap to chill beer at festivals and such. You probably could do the same to the water coming out of your chiller before it hits the five gallon bucket to recirculate i...

This being my first attempt at fruit beer makes me want to brew some mead. I hear that's a really long ferment. (-: Thanks a whole lot for all the help. This site is an invaluable resource for all of us!
